Sun Server testing
So I was reading an entry on a blog a short while ago and decided to take him at his word and applied for the server for work. As a web development house we use Coldfusion for our applications and are always interested to try out new platforms for implementation.
The server duly arrived a few minutes ago and I spent some time marvelling at the amount of packaging that a server obviously requires - 2x big cardboard boxes for power cords(one in each!!!) and then the actual box itself. The look of the server is beautiful, from the tiny HDD's to the hotswap PSU's. Unlike with a Dell box it is not possible to boot straight into the machine and the pre-startup manual is over 70 pages long but hopefully when it's booted it will be a simple process to keep it there. Unfortunately, I don't have the serial cable required to boot the server today so will be unable to start the box up until it arrives by post tomorrow morning.
The software to go on here will be:
- apache 2
- Coldfusion MX7.1
- a high usage, processer intensive web application
Further info will be posted in due course along with benchmarks showing the speed comparisons with a similar windows machine(and Linux box if time permits).
