Coldfusion and windows(or how I learned to hate everything)

Posted 2 years, 8 months ago on July 18, 2006 by yerma  Web Development, Work

I was receiving the following rror when trying to add an odbc socket datasource on a cfmx7 box:

Unable to update the ColdFusion MX ODBC Server.
Timeout period expired without completion of C:\CFusionMX\db\slserver52\admin\swcla.exe

After trying a few things(updater 2, re-running complete install package etc) it was still broken and I was left with a bit of a quandry and unfortunately only a couple of hours to sort it out in.
I opted for a full re-install of windows but was very annoyed to see that even with the full re-install I was unable to get it working so I re-downloaded the install package(with updater 2 applied) and re-installed cf. Thankfully this time it worked and I was able to get it working before the clients realised anything was up.
PLEASE NOTE
This link was useful but the lies told here caused more annoyance than anything else. The knowledgebase article does not work in cfmx7 so don't believe their lies.

Importing certificates into cfmx

Posted 2 years, 8 months ago on July 5, 2006 by yerma  Web Development

I always forget how to import certs into coldfusion - the below is my reminder for a default install of apache and cf.

C:\CFusionMX7\runtime\jre\lib\security>C:\CFusionMX7\runtime\jre\bin\keytool.exe -import -trustcacerts -keystore cacerts -alias localdev -file "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\ssl\CERTNAME.cert"

UPDATE: Wednesday 6th September 2006
If you upgrade your cf installation using the updater you will have to reimport all the certs again.

Oracle-xe on debian

Posted 2 years, 11 months ago on April 7, 2006 by yerma  Web Development

Have been installing Oracle XE on debian again to try and test a database on 10g to ensure there are no issues and kept being met with the same error when sqlplusing in:

ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist

I found a posting on a message board which seemed to be caused by an unmet dependency on bc. A quick run of apt-get install bc followed by an uninstall and reinstall of Oracle soon resolved the matter.

UPDATE: This actually required a dpkg --purge oracle-xe followed by a complete reconfigure.

Installing Oracle on debian

Posted 1 week, 5 days ago on March 23, 2006 by yerma  Web Development

I didn't realise it but Oracle is now available on Debian. It looks like an easy thing to setup and maintain but will post findings on here when I get it sorted.

Running cf5/mx and bluedragon on one host

Posted 1 week, 5 days ago on March 23, 2006 by yerma  Web Development, Work

A very useful link about how to install cf5,cfmx and bluedragon all together on one box for development. My colleague is currently working on how to do it another way using multiple apache config files - will update that later.

Ruby on rails

Posted 3 years, 1 month ago on February 28, 2006 by yerma  Web Development

As a developer I have yet to try working with Ruby on Rails but from everything I have been told it sounds amazing. The ease by which applications can be rolled out is phenomenal and it can be rolled out cross platform (i believe only using apache but am unsure). There is a great tutorial from apple here which explains quite a lot of the details. Will have to give this a try soon myself.
